Fighting for the Right Reasons

strolling along

hand in hand

bringing up the past

in order to move ahead

lost in limbo

shattered reminders

continue to haunt

a bewildered past

that tries to heal

shame and discussed

over unsettled problems

that may never leave

bearing the soul,

will truth set us free

or continue down

a negative path?

we can learn from others,

their lives bear witness

to repeated failures

we’ve been through this many times

at one point we should have learned,

is there hope for the future?

no dancing around on empty promises

we finally came to the conclusion

that we’re fighting for the right reasons

A little of this, but a lot of that

the prism

has a way of changing color

from splitting something

according from relativity

matter bends space

but it depends on mass of the cluster

weighing in on outcome

love is not a hurting thing

only humans who deceive

each other

these poems may open eyes

my intentions are granted here

to think and use wisely

Queen Sugar series

Did anyone see the last episode of Queen Sugar on the Oprah Winfrey Network last year? My favorite scene was between Nova Bordelon played by Rutina Wesley and Calvin played by Greg Vaughan. An interracial romance that will end later next month, but there was too much that worked against them; a married cop and racial tensions. I always hate it when a married man gets involved with another woman. I’m thinking, ”Why don’t they separate?” That’s the least they could do. But it continues to happen in real life too.

The story is about the lives of the Bordelon siblings. Their father died and left a sugarcane mill company in Louisiana. The executive producers are award-winning filmmaker Ava Duvernay, Oprah Winfrey, and Monica Macer. The series is based on the book by Natalie Baszile. The 2-night season premieres on June 20 and 21. Watch it!

Times like these

Violence may go down in some areas, but I wonder at times. Especially when almost every day it gets worse. When laws are not enforced, crimes get worse. We have good cops and we have bad cops. But our system here in America has problems from the top on down.

More reporters have been killed than ever before. You can be right in your home and get shot or attacked. Buying more guns is not the answer. We didn’t have neighborhood watch groups years ago. People looked out for each other more. So, why are we having these problems? Because society has broken down. We’re not even safe in church at times. There are people who don’t want to hear about God. All they care about is how to rip the next person off or some other crime. In spite of these problems, we have to live as best as possible. Put on the whole armour of God.

Come together

It would be beautiful if people got along. They would never argue or complain. They would see eye to eye on so many levels, but we don’t live in a perfect world and we’re not perfect. Nevertheless, we should as people get along better. I know some of you have been hurt so bad by certain people or individuals you really can’t stand being around them at all. Who hasn’t gone through that? But our world is full of so many other people who are not that way at all. There are so many songs about people coming together that we’ve all heard over the years. Music can bring people together. I love Santana, but I haven’t heard any new songs by him in years. I have all the old ones.

So I went to his website and guess what I found! The original Santana band are getting together for the first time since 1973. Santana IV CD came out last year. A new album came out in April. This band has the most soulful Latin blues rock songs by any group or singer. No one does it better. But you all have your favorites. Let love shine in. Check it out.
